The process begins by attaching a balloon to a cardboard tube and applying multiple layers of a papier-mâché.  Once the papier-mâché has dried, forming a sturdy base, the balloon is removed and a cardboard tube is inserted and secured inside the head.  The tube extends outward to create the neck. A layer of papier-mâché clay is then rolled out and applied over the structure, with additional clay used to sculpt prominent facial features such as ears, a nose, and lips.  After drying, the surface is base-coated with chalk paint in a skin tone. Fine details are then hand-painted with acrylics before sealing with a protective coat of Mod Podge.

Of course, every artist needs a helper—how adorable is he?

The body is crafted from unbleached cotton, with the hands carefully filled with batting and coated with chalk paint and Mod Podge for added structure and durability.  The clothing is made from the same high-quality fabrics used in my quilt making, ensuring a cohesive and artisanal touch. Each outfit is interchangeable, allowing for easy customization and outfit changes as desired.

The body is securely attached to the head, and hair—if included—is carefully selected and applied. The puppet is then dressed, with finishing touches such as buttons, jewelry, and hair accessories added for extra character and charm.  Each puppet is labeled with its name and date.

Once complete, the puppet is ready for adoption!
